Sam Wooten Obituary

Sam Wooten of Conyers, passed away May 1, 2016, at the age of 73. Born to the late Calvin and Nettie Wooten, he loved his family and always put them first. Mr. Wooten retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 34 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, flying, and working on his plane and his cars. Mr. Wooten was also known for his love of running and cycling. In addition to being an avid reader, he gave freely of his time helping others and participating in mission trips.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 51 years, Nancy Wooten of Conyers; daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Ed Poole of Conyers, Allyson and Marty Timms of Macon; grandchildren, Meredith Poole, Morgan Poole, Fisher Timms, Parish Timms; sisters, Lucy Mahaffey, Peggy Fisher, Ruth Jackson, Sue Jones, Martha Harwell; brother, Neal Wooten; as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Wooten will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2016, 2:00 PM, at First Baptist Church, 1129 Usher Street NE, in Covington, with Pastor Ralph Meaker officiating. Friends are invited to join the family for visitation after the service. Interment will follow at a later date in North Carolina.
