Sometimes things never seem the same after the death of a loved one. It is not unusual for us to face seemingly unbearable grief and pain while adjusting to the new changes in our lives. In an effort to assist those in the community who are grieving the loss of someone special, Caldwell and Cowan Funeral Home has established a Bereavement Center and grief library, and an annual Candlelight Memorial Service and Memory Tree to honor those we have lost.

The Candlelight Memorial Service and Memory Tree ceremony is held each year during the holiday season. The indoor portion of the service is held in the funeral home chapel where a local minister offers words of encouragement based on the promises of faith. The service is also uplifted by local singers and musicians. Afterward, the service moves onto the front lawn of the Bereavement Center where the families participate in singing Christmas hymns, and are offered the opportunity to place an ornament with the name of their loved one on the Memory Tree. At the end of the service, the Memory Tree is lit in honor of those who are dearly loved and missed. This service is not only for families that Caldwell and Cowan has lovingly served, but for any family in the community who wishes to honor their loved ones in a special, symbolic memorial.

Our grief library consists of handpicked resources to assist those who are experiencing the

loss of a loved one. Jimmy Herring - Director of Bereavement Services, will help guide you through our selection of grief-related books, videos, and brochures that are specific to each individual's grief circumstance. Each person's journey through the grief process is both personal and unique. Therefore, we have carefully chosen a wide variety of materials in an effort to provide help for most situations. Acquiring information concerning the process of grief is one of the most important factors in developing a healthy, positive direction after the death of a loved one. For your convenience, our Bereavement Center is open to the public and our resources are loaned to individuals free of charge. If you are interested in borrowing any of our grief-related resources, or if you need further assistance, please feel free to visit Caldwell and Cowan Funeral Home.
